Theme: Older Colheitas Ports

1964 Krohn White Colheita Port – Bottled in 2008. Touches of honeysuckle with some cedar on the nose. Full, unctuous mouthfeel with orange spice notes and good acidity. This wine is starting to show some dusty age. Vanilla and some woody notes on the palate with good acidity on the long finish. 93 points. 6/3/2018

2003 Burmester Colheita Port – Bottled in 2017. Some notes of orange peel and some spirit on the nose. Amber-brown in color with good clarity. Unctuous mouthfeel with bright acidity. Caramel apples on the palate with a smooth, long finish. 94 points. 6/3/2018

1996 Burmester Colheita Port – Bottled in 2016. Amber-orange in color. Toasted nuts and spice on the nose. Well-balanced, with smoky notes, almond and orange spice on the palate. Long finish. 92 points.

1989 Burmester Colheita Port – Bottled in 2016. Orange- amber in color. Caramel and pralines on the nose with a touch of spirit underneath. There is a lot of sweetness on this wine, which takes away from the complexity. 88 points. 6/3/2018

1985 Burmester Colheita Port – Bottled in 2015. Citrus notes on the nose with a touch of spirit. Some sweet notes of crème Brulee, but a little flat on the flavor profile. Nice long finish, though. 90 points. 6/3/2018

1978 Burmester Colheita Port – Amber-orange in color with lightening on the edges. A touch of spirit on the nose. Luscious pecan and unctuous mouthfeel with great acidity. Great long finish. 94 points. 6/3/2018

DR  40 Year Old Tawny Port – Bottled in 2015. Orange-brown in color. Dark chocolate and espresso notes on the nose. Rootbeer on the palate with dark mahogany notes. Full-bodied with nice notes of caramel and nuts on the long finish. 95 points. 6/3/2018

1968 Caves Messias Colheita Port – Orange-brown in color. Some lemon and citrus notes on the nose. Simplistic palate with a little strawberry and some noticeable alcohol present. Short finish. 89 points. 6/3/2018

1950 Burmester Colheita Port – Bottled in 2010. Dark brown amber in color. Espresso and dark chocolate on the nose. Some spirit on the palate, giving way to cedar and some caramel notes. Medium-bodied with a pronounced sweetness, which is balanced out by the bright acidity. 94 points. 6/3/2018

1941 Kopke Colheita Port – Amber in color with some hints of brown around the edges. This Colheita shows some light spirit on the nose with pralines, nuts and honey. Great texture and unctuous mouthfeel on the mid-palate. Perhaps a touch too much spirit on the long finish. 93 points. 6/3/2018
